Italy’s Newest Basketball Arena Chooses One Systems
Nashville, Tennessee, December, 2009 – When the Biella Forum arena in Biella, Italy,
home to basketball team Angelico Biella, decided to outfit their arena with a new sound
system, they chose One Systems, a leading manufacturer of direct weather speakers.
The installation, performed by Delta Sound of Val Della Torre (Torino), Italy includes
eight 112IMs with 105 x 60 degree horns and fourteen 212CIMs from One Systems.
The Biella Forum Arena completed construction in February 2009 and is home to
basketball team, Angelico Biella, a competitor in the Italian major championship “A1”, as
well as the Eurocup tournament. In addition to boisterous basketball games, there are
numerous live concerts and events throughout the year as well. In being awarded the
contract to install the new system, Delta Sound worked closely with One Systems’
Italian Distributor, Etabeta Electronics SRL of Bregnano, Italy. The Biella Forum Arena
management chose One Systems speakers based on the previous experiences of both
Etabeta and Delta Sound with the product line. The arena, which seats 5,000, is an
example of a high-noise sports and live music venue requiring exceptionally intelligible
speakers that perform well for both music and spoken applications. One Systems’
patented equivalent throat horn/driver technology and high-output design made the
choice easy for project designer engineer Daniele Santini of Etabeta.
“The most attractive part of One Systems is the very high vocal intelligibility of the
112IM and 212CIM speakers, along with their compact size and variable mounting
options,” says Santini. “We knew the challenge would be trying achieve the same sound level at every seat. The U brackets that we used for mounting really gave us the chance
to modify the loudspeaker direction easily, without removing the loudspeaker from the
bolts.”
Working closely with the other system designers, Santini positioned the speakers
specifically for the different seating areas. The design utilizes distributed loudspeakers
in sections using a combination of 212CIMs and 112IMs. The seating areas running the
length of the court include four 212CIM speakers in the lower section and four 112IM’s
in the upper section, each installed using their respective U Brackets. The remaining
seating areas running the width of the court, utilize three 212CIM speakers per section.
Due to the precise placement and high output sound quality of each speaker, every fan
is reached and able to clearly understand all the announcements. “The client couldn’t
be happier with this installation, and neither could we,” says Santini.
This isn’t the first basketball arena installation for One Systems, but is the first European
basketball arena install. “Our speakers work especially well in these high-noise
environments, whether indoors or outdoors, and this installation in Italy shows that we
continue to expand our reach in the global community,” says One Systems President,
Doug MacCallum.
